PUBLIC EDUCATION INFILTRATED BY FALSE AND MISLEADING INFORMATION AND SINISTER PHILOSOPHY OF THE NUCLEAR INDUSTRY

The following is a description of some of my observations regarding the nuclear industry's infiltration its false and misleading information and sinister philosophy into public education as the nuclear industry poses threats of injury and loss of life to Americans on American soil.

Rough Draft

While checking on Gandy Marley Inc's background with the New Mexico Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources, Daniel Sanchez and Wayne Price were attempting to intimidate me as they were yelling at me on a their speaker phone....  I will save the rest of the details of this conversation I had with them for one of my public comments, except for the part when Daniel Sanchez babbled on about how he had worked for "Westinghouse and nuclear energy is safer then burning coal."

Daniel Sanchez is a former Westinghouse employee with a philosophy that believes it is okay to hurt people so that others may profit. He is in a position to protecting the public from the harm that could be caused by Gandy Marley Inc. either being incompetent of intentionally breaking the law.  I looked on the Internet to find out if Westinghouse had anything to do with EnergySolutions, and found that they both have strong ties with a company called: “British Nuclear Fuels plc (BNFL).”

While considering the way government employees have responded to my efforts during the past few weeks, I came to realize that employees of health and environmental agencies have been really helpful, and have validated my concerns about how unsafe and unclean nuclear energy is.  But when I talk to employees of the DOE and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, they talk about how safe and clean nuclear energy is, until I point out all the scientific studies and historical events that say otherwise.  Then, they start talking about how coal-burning plants are so much worse than nuclear plants.  It appears to almost be a religious cult with people following the philosophy of "It is okay to hurt others for a profit."

I remember when I was teaching in Lake Arthur during the school year of 1995-1996, when a man approached me from the WIPP site representing Westinghouse.  He had all kinds of shiny and glossy "educational materials" that he wanted to give to the science teacher that talked about how "clean and safe" nuclear energy was.  This was the first time I had ever heard anyone say that nuclear energy was "safe and clean." This made me a bit upset, because I knew better. But I was in no position to do anything about it.

Among several other subjects, I taught some elementary science between 1997 and 2001, while teaching in Roswell .  I remember looking at sections of the textbooks that talked about nuclear energy, and noticing that they didn't mention the known hazards or catastrophes related to nuclear energy.  I assumed that these things would be covered at higher levels.  But, in retrospect, I remember attending a curriculum committee meeting in the central office, when a high school teacher came in talking about how excited he was about the tour that he just took at the WIPP site.  He talked about the educational materials they gave to him, and talked about how he was planning to take his students on a tour of the WIPP site on a field trip.  I don't know if the Superintendent actually ever let him take kids to such a dangerous place, but I have wondered about this.

When I found the strong ties between Westinghouse, EnergySolutions (Envirocare) and British Nuclear Fuels plc (BNFL), I started looking up as much information as I could on BNLF, and found some interesting information educational programs (reminiscent of Hitler Youth Camps) that may help explain how so many are willing to put others at risk so that the nuclear industry can profit.

INKS ABOUT BNLF:

BNFL announced in July that it planned to sell Westinghouse. It announced last week that it had sold its U.S. nuclear clean-up business BNG America to Envirocare of Utah. Envirocare marked the purchase by changing its name EnergySolutions.

According to its corporate plan, the British Nuclear Energy Society aims "to be the leading 'Learned Society' for Nuclear Energy, in its totality, and to lead and facilitate a clearer understanding of the subject" [1].

It advocates starting to construct new nuclear power stations in the UK . They argue that they "cannot see a future that is acceptable to this country's energy needs, that does not include an immediate and ongoing commitment from current and future governments, to a continuing nuclear generating capability." [2].

The BNES wants the government to "influence and inform the public so that there is a clear understanding of the benefits of nuclear energy as a safe, sustainable, economic, reliable and environmentally acceptable contributor to the needs of this country, for the centuries ahead." [ibid].
